From Recovery to Purpose: The VA’s Story of Anthony Warren and the Inspiration Behind About Face

In 2021, the VA published an article highlighting the journey of Veteran Anthony Warren, a journey marked by service, struggle, survival, and ultimately, purpose. VA News
After two overseas tours as a combat engineer and more than a decade of service, Anthony emerged from the military only to face challenges that many Veterans know all too well: trauma, addiction, unstable housing, and uncertainty. He found himself seeking help — housing assistance, rehabilitation, and community support.
With determination, Anthony used VA resources, completed treatment programs, and tapped into support programs, including the HUD-VASH voucher system, which helped him secure stable housing. VA News
Eventually, he became a certified peer support specialist, using his lived experience and personal recovery to help other Veterans facing similar challenges. VA News
That story, one of resilience, hard-won recovery, and compassionate service, became the foundation of About Face. We believe that no Veteran should walk their hardest paths alone. About Face exists to walk with them, providing housing support, emotional support, life-skills training, outreach, and practical resources.
Every program we run, every outreach effort we make, and every life we touch is rooted in the conviction that recovery and stability are possible. Anthony’s story is our story. And with your help, we continue to build a community that offers hope, structure, and dignity to those who served.
